Preparing for the future for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are facing the transition from school to adult services.  

This workshop is for parents and caregivers of teens and young adults, age 13-21, who meet the eligibility criteria for the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and will be seeking DDS services upon high school graduation. 

Topics covered will include: what services will be available to young adults when they transition from school to adult services and how to advocate for school and adult  services for your child or loved one with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Presenters:
Marina Derman
Marina is a parent activist who has two young adult sons with autism and intellectual disabilities. In addition to having 15 years experience as a special education advocate, Marina is a leader in The Arc CT’s Lower Fairfield County Families for Families group, and a member of the CT ABLE Act Committee, the ID Partnership and the Westport Commission on Persons with Disabilities.

Walter Glomb
Walt is the Executive Director of the CT Council on Developmental Disabilities. Prior to being hired at the DD Council, Walt was a long time parent activist and the cofounder of The Family Empowerment Task Force.
